Suffolk NYCLU E-Newsletter
Dear Supporters,
The Suffolk Bill of Rights Defense Campaign,
of which the Suffolk NYCLU is an active
participant, held an open forum at the
Huntington Cinema Arts Centre on April
29th. The forum, attended by 150 guests,
featured three speakers – Jared
Feuer, Director of the Suffolk NYCLU;
Sally Robinson, Chair of the New York
City Bill of Rights Defense Campaign;
and Ghazi Khankan, Executive Director
for the Council on American Islamic Relations
in New York and Director of Interfaith
Affairs at the Islamic Center of Long
Island. Mr. Khankan spoke of the difficulties,
abuse and violence faced by Muslim Americans
in the post 9/11 climate. Ms. Robinson
spoke of how she came to be involved in
the NYC Campaign, and how the Campaign
developed and ultimately passed an NYC
resolution. Jared Feuer spoke of his prior
work in Washington to prevent the unconstitutional
provisions of the PATRIOT Act, and how
it is not Washington efforts, but local
resolutions that have made the difference
in the effort to preserve the Bill of
Rights.
It is the goal of the Suffolk Bill of
Rights Defense Campaign to join our communities
with the hundreds of communities and four
states that have passed resolutions to
protect their combined 49,909,239 residents'
civil liberties. You can make a difference
with only a few clicks! If you are a resident
of Huntington, you can edit or send a
free pre-written letter to the Town Board
through our website at:
http://www.suffolknyclu.org/billofrights/townboard.cfm
If you are resident of Suffolk county,
you can edit or send a pre-written letter
to County Executive Steve Levy at:

We are just starting this effort, and
we need as much support as possible! If
you forward this letter to just a few
family and friends in Suffolk County,
we can double or triple our effort. We
can make a difference!
